It’s only been a month since Bellutti bags has rebranded their company. In an effort to transform their signature bags into a more lifestyle go-to, the Austrian brand has taken on the mindset of a millennial and decided that they too can do it all. We were fortunate enough to sit down for a chat with Verena Bellutti herself to find out what makes Bellutti unique.
- You have recently relaunched your brand under the name Verena Bellutti. What was behind the decision to rebrand the former Bellutti bags?
The Name Bellutti Bags was limited to bags only. We wanted to offer more than bags and to have a name that reflected that. Lifestyle-Accessories and T-Shirts will be coming soon. Therefore, we reinvented our brand, had a fun holi powder photoshooting to celebrate, and started under a new name.
- You seem to execute everyday practical styles with vibrant colors and patterns in such a fresh way. What was the inspiration behind this collection?
I wanted to show that fashion is fun! Creating a line of bags that is practical, cool, and classic at the same time has always been a dream. I love wearing monochrome outfits and the striking colors of our bags give me that extra pop of color. I always thought that accessories are the best way to add in something special.
- You have marketed your bags as nearly indestructible. What materials are used for the Verena Bellutti bag?
We use upcycled PVC for our products. It is a wonderful material – you can fly with it, cover a truck, or tailor a beautiful hand bag. It really is basically indestructible and almost 100% waterproof. When buying bags, I always look for great quality and durability. I decided to use PVC because it is lightweight but also very sturdy and the mesh tarpaulin look gives some great texture!
- What prompted the decision to make an exclusively vegan line?
We had surplus of this great material, and I wanted to do what has always been important me – to live and act sustainable. With this line, we want to make an impact on the fashion world and a contribution to environmental protection while still looking fashionable and fabulous.
- Is there any one bag that you would say embodies your brand best?
Probably our bestseller Pouch Bag KAIMANA. The design is just so practical. You can use it for everyday purposes, but it also fits a lot of things when needed. It is sturdy but fashionable, durable but a true classic.
- What kind of woman carries a Verena Bellutti bag?
A person who is fashion-conscious, modern, and cares about the environment. They appreciate functionality and individualism as well as a new young design. The material is perfect for people who are living an active lifestyle, love being outdoors, and care about sustainability and design.
- Your styles are available online for customers in the United States, but are there any plans to expand your retail stores to America?
Right now we only ship to the United States when requested. We are looking to launch our online store in the US at the end of 2016. We are always working on expanding the brand and that, of course, also means that we are looking for retail stores who would like to work with us.
- What can bag lovers expect from future Verena Bellutti collections?
Right now, we are about to launch our “City-Collection” which is a line of lifestyle accessories like iPad and laptop sleeves, passport holders, wash and makeup bags. In addition, we are excited to release a line of organic T-Shirts with details made of tarpaulin surplus.
Since we are using surplus material, we don’t have spring or fall collections but color collections. Whenever one material is finished, another one is being used. This helps us to keep emissions down and save resources.
