10 Beauty Hacks That Cost Nothing

10 Beauty Hacks That Cost Nothing

If there is one thing the Internet is good for, it’s blessing us all with life hacks. It’s the one type of browsing that doesn’t make me feel like I’m completely wasting my time. If I can make things like cleaning house easier, faster, and more effective, I’m all for it! There are excellent hacks for cooking, making crafts, and cleaning, but perhaps the most useful for us girls are the beloved beauty hacks. We could all use some advice on how to shorten our routines and get the highest value out of our favorite beauty products. Even the most glamorous of women would agree! I have complied some of my favorite and most effective beauty hacks out there below. I made sure to include hacks that cost nothing – or next to it, at least! Some are so simple and obvious they will have you wondering why you never thought of them in the first place.

1. Shrink Your Pores With Ice

Open and/or large pores are breeding ground for dirt and bacteria. After cleansing your skin, tighten up your pores to reduce their size and prevent future dirt from entering with ice. Wrap an ice cube in a cloth and in slow circular motions gently press the ice to skin. It’s the best and cheapest skin tightening technique! You can also use this ice trick to reduce the size and redness of a pimple.

2. Line Red Lips With Concealer For Perfect Look

It’s hard to get the perfect red lips when the natural creases around your lips cause the red to bleed into your surrounding skin. Keep edges sharp by lining around your lips with concealer afterward to block the color. It’s foolproof:  every time!

3. Make Your Eyes Appear Larger

Be careful when using dark eyeliner underneath your eyes. This look instantly makes eyes appear smaller.  Keep the dark color to lash line and below and line your water line with nude or white liner to open up your eyes and make them appear infinitely larger. You can also dab some white on the inner corner of your eyes to continue the effect.

4. Use Water To Protect Your Hair Before You Swim

Before entering a chlorine-filled pool, just pour some tap water over your head. When hair is dry it absorbs a lot more, so keep the chlorine out by pre-soaking your locks in fresh tap water! You can also put in a leave-in conditioner beforehand –that will also protect it from the sun.

5. Twist Your Hair To Get Some Wave

Forget expensive products and crazy YouTube techniques. To get the perfect beachy look, just twist wet hair into several buns all around your head. Pin and blast with blow dryer or let it dry naturally this way at home. Once dry, remove buns and viola! A little salt spray beforehand works even better if you have it.

6. Use Dots To Get Symmetrical Winged Liner

Nothing is worse than eyeliner wings that are not identical! Make yours perfect every time by applying regularly on your lash line. Then apply a dot directly out from the corner of your eye on both sides of your face. This way the lines are always straight and symmetrical. You won’t have to worry about where to stop!

7. Use Apple Cider Vinegar As Toner

Apple cider vinegar is being recognized more and more for its stellar powers. For beauty, it works well as a natural toner that is already in your pantry. Simply soak a cotton ball with equal parts vinegar and water and apply to skin. Let it set for a few minutes then rinse clean and moisturize. Apple cider vinegar is a natural astringent and anti-inflammatory that tightens your skin at the same time!

8. Apply Your Regimen Like This For Perfect Skin

Women who do their routine out of order and then end up with blemished skin always amaze a friend of mine who works in skincare. She believes the following order should be written law! In order to make your products the most effective, layer them from lightest to heaviest:

  1. remove makeup
  2. cleanse skin
  3. apply toner
  4. apply any serums
  5. moisturize
  6. apply eye cream

9. Dry With A T-Shirt For Frizz-Free Locks

Believe it or not, it’s your bath towel that contributes to the frizz in your hair! Terry cloth removes too much moisture from the hair, while drying with a t-shirt is perfect. Simply wrap your head up in an old shirt instead of towel once out of the shower.

PS – to maximize your hair’s moisture even further, rinse your conditioner out with cold water. It seals the hair follicle and protects your luscious locks!

10. Get More Life Out Of Your Mascara

Mascara goes on better when warm, so rub the tube between palms for a few seconds before applying. Never pump your mascara wand, it pushes in air, drying it out faster and potentially letting bacteria enter, which is never a good thing! Simply remove the wand at an angle, scraping off any excess for a clean application.

And there you have it. I’m sure you will love these beauty hacks if you don’t already use them. Stay tuned for more.
